​Mark Battenberg is a Toronto based composer, producer, performing artist and author specializing in holistic, meditative musical composition and poetic verse, designed for live concert production , spiritual services, and other esoteric events, and gatherings .
His performances are infused with sublime mythical themes and healing harmonic energy, creating organic melodic soundscapes that resonate with listeners, inviting them to embark upon a musical journey of peace and personal discovery. Be it in a concert hall, church, or smaller intimate setting, his eclectic music and poetry are always captivating, romantic and filled with a sincerity that reveal a life time of dedication to his craft.

​​His body of work has been developed for over span of 50 years and includes 7 CD’s of his own compositions for classical guitar, music for film and theatre, and a large portfolio of original arrangements for guitar and strings, and ensembles with Shakuhachi flute.
​
Mark's work has always been founded on his core philosophical belief of caring for those in need, and being a voice for those who can't speak for themselves.
He has produced and performed many community fundraising and awareness event including the Summer and Winter Solstice Concert Series (The Cosmic Dancer) to raise food bank donations, and concerts to support Pancreatic Cancer Canada, addiction research and First Nations Partnerships, as well as private fundraising events.

For more than 20 years Mark has had the privilaged of performing healing musical events with internationally acclaimed Shakuhachi Flute Master Debbie Danbrook.
Together they weave melodic stories of sound that soothe the soul and calm the mind.

His musical journey began in the Beaches area of Toronto with cello studies at Williamson Rd School. He is a graduate of Fanshawe College’s Music Industry Arts program, where he was mentored by Canadian music legend Jack Richardson. He has been involved in many genres as a guitarist, bassist, vocalist and producer for Rock , Folk, Classical and Jazz projects, and continues to add his creative talents to new works and collaborations. Other studies include classical guitar and performance at the RCM, as well as Celtic harp, and Bass guitars

He has had the wonderful experience of performing his work with the some of the finest musicains in the GTA including the Cello and Violin team Duo Thalia, Jazz Pianist Dr. David Powell, Toronto Cellist Mary-Katherine Finch, Cellist Dr. Debrochna Zubek, Violinist Oleksandra Fedyshyn, Cellist and conductor Dr. Andrew Ascenzo, Blues Guitar wizard Graydon Nichols, film composer Mark Korven, members of the TSO, Canadian Opera company and many more.

His literary work includes the poetry collection entitled A Leaf in the Wind, the soon to be released Ghosts of Draemore Pond, (meditations of magic and re -incarnation) and the the children's books Rodney the Rain Cloud, A Marvelous Moth named Martha, Penny the Porcupine , and more

Mark teaches at Beyond the Beat Studio's in the Beaches of Toronto as well as privately from his home studio. He also hosts workshops and other educational session in his community

A Leaf in the Wind is an epic poetic journey and adventure through the endless cycles of life and death, myth and magic, and a recognition of the joys and sufferings of those with whom we share the great mystery of existence.
These poems guide us to the quiet places of our souls and encourage us to be mindful of the fragile balance of nature, and our shared place within it.

The title piece ​A Leaf in the Wind is a metaphor for our own lives, being born safe and secure on the tree that is our home, and how the winds of life take us away from our roots and send us out on a journey full of perils, joys and adventures. We have to learn to drift along with the currents of life, and be able to persevere through painful times, while still having empathy for all the other leaves who are also going through their own journeys and challenges.
